The British Local Fish Cooker is a speculative installation reflecting the paradoxical reality of cod eaten in the UK. Caught in the North Atlantic, cut in China and then eaten in the UK. Global cod supply sustains the beloved local tradition of fish and chips. The cod swims more dead than alive.

To criticize on this, this installation simulates the state of frozen sea transport and considers it as a cooking process. The refrigeration unit cools the pot while the supporting rods below mimic the motion of ocean waves. This is to raise awareness that the beloved local cuisine underwent such a journey before reaching their table.

「英国本地鱼锅」 是一个思辨性装置作品,反映了英国人食用鳕鱼背后的矛盾现实。鳕鱼在北大西洋被捕获,在中国被切割加工,最终又回到英国人的餐桌上。全球化的鳕鱼供应链支撑着英国人钟爱的“炸鱼薯条”这一地方传统。鳕鱼在死去之后比活着时还游得远。

为对此进行批判性反思,该装置模拟了冷冻海运的状态,并将其视为一种“烹饪”过程。制冷装置为锅体降温,而下方的支撑杆则模仿海浪的起伏运动。作品意在提醒人们——他们所珍爱的地方美食,在抵达餐桌之前,曾经历过如此漫长而复杂的旅程。
